3 is a magic number...

I hosted the first official blank canvas night. My pals Christine and Mona came over, we feasted on chicken tacos, rice and salsa, then we broke out the art supplies and just played. We stamped, collaged and painted til one a.m. We had a great time! I hope our next Blank Canvas Night produces an item for auction.

Today is my neice's 3rd birthday. I painted this cupcake for her. She has lived the most challenging 3 years health wise. You would never know it by her energy and attitude! She is sunny and feisty and joyful with a pinch of attitude. Nothing is gonna hold her back. Not to mention, she's adorable. Happy birthday baby girl! I love you lots.

Luck o' the (wannabe) Irish

One of my favorite holidays is St. Patrick's Day. I always spend the day in a local pub enjoying the festivities. I have an adorable pair of green polka dot sling backs I usually wear. I think I may retire them and wear these new sneakers instead!

Painted freehand with about six colors of Twinkling H2O's, these sneaks have a vibrant and sparkly color to them.

They are going to look rad with jeans and a green tee!

Happy Heart Awareness day!!

I had a great time crafting my "gal-entine's day" cards using chipboard cards, twinkling h2o's and hearts cut out of the book "lady chatterley's lover". I am really having a good time exercising my artistic muscles!

Spent Valentines day at the toy fair in NYC.

This was my Valentine's day date! And they lit up the empire state building for Valentine's Day.

On a really rad note: we were chosen as blog of the week for scrapbooking.com!! Welcome to all new followers. Please know this project is to help bring awareness to the fact that 1 in 100 babies are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD). Prescreening is not a common prenatal test. I personally know three people born with a CHD. I urge everyone to put heart in their art to help tell the CHD story.

Super Art Sunday

While everyone else in the USA was rooting for the colts or the saints, I was hanging with
my niece and nephew, plus a bunch of cool sparkly watercolors. I love that they both love to draw and paint. And I love that they both know they are good at it. That's half the battle, right?

One of the best parts of the day was my baby niece. I'd post a picture, but she would not stand still long enough to take one. That makes me happy!

Here is the next piece for my valentine's day project. How is it all going to work together? I'm honestly not sure yet.

Just checking in!

Valentines day is also CHD Awareness day. I'm working on some mini Valentine art to celebrate. Using pages from Lady Chatterley's Lover and Twinkling H2O's. Now if only I had a valentine!

the cause, the effect

THE CAUSE
I think I have chosen the recipient of any funds raised through Blank Canvas Mondays. Please check out tchin.org for more info. Below is some information from the Congenital Heart Information Network:

Congenital Heart Disease is considered to be the most common birth defect, and is a leading cause of birth-defect related deaths worldwide. Despite the fact that CHD affects approximately 1.8 millions families in the U.S., a relatively small amount of funding is currently available for parent/patient educational services, research, and support.

By sharing our experiences and providing information, we hope to raise public awareness about conditions that affect approximately 40,000 babies each year in the United States alone.

It is our sincere hope that efforts to educate the public will result in improved early diagnosis, additional funding for support and educational services, scientific research, and access to quality of care for our children and adults.

THE EFFECT

I have decided to work solo until February since I have to fit in projects into my spare time during my busy tradeshow season at work. I will start open workshops for all thursdays in February. I am planning a late afternoon workshop time around 4 o'clock. Let me know if that time works for you!

Thanks for having Art in your Heart

Art, for fun, for philanthropy.

To all artists and artists at heart,
One of my goals for 2010 to be more creative, to make more art, and to be more philanthropic. I have decided to begin a Blank Canvas project. Blank Canvas night will be on THURSDAY nights. Everyone is welcome, but space is limited so sign up early. Location may rotate, but will be in the Orange County area.

THE ART: The concept is simple. Everyone is to bring their own small canvas (11x14 or under) and any art supplies they don't mind sharing. I hope the canvas is small enough you can go home with a finished piece. Some nights we will film a quick technique video. This video will be posted on our blog on Monday (hence the name!)

Don't worry if you do not consider yourself an artist. This night is about new beginnings, allowing yourself to try something new, learning and about being around friends.

THE CHARITY: I will be donating one project a month to an EBAY charity auction for CHD awareness. For those of you that don't know I have a niece (and a nephew, right Tawny?!) who were born with congenital heart defects. Congenital Heart Defects is the number one birth defect and the more awareness there is the more funding we can get for research.

I would also ask any participants if they wish to donate their projects for auction. If you cannot attend but would still like to donate piece of art, that is great too. Donating is NOT a requirement to participate.

I have not scheduled the first date, but I am starting an interest list. Please comment on this post if you are interested in participating. Be specific, note if you would like to create, teach a technique, donate a piece for auction, host a blank canvas night, sponsor the project. Subscribe to this blog for updates as they are made available.

My HEART goes out to you all!
